Description: When an alien species takes over most of the bodies left of the human race there are only a handful of people left, people that will risk everything to survive. When Melanie gets taken over by this non-human species she fights hard to overtake the evil creature living inside her and escape back to her loved ones. But what happens when the enemies find her again? And how long can she keep fighting this creature that calls herself Wanderer?
My Thoughts: I watched this film in the cinema when it first came out and I thought it was absolutely amazing… but after seeing it the second time two years later, my opinion has changed a little bit. I don’t know if since then my brain has just become more criticising.
Firstly, when Melanie gets taken over by Wanderer and she is just a voice in Wanderer’s head it can get seriously annoying, and I know there is no other way that it could have been done, or if there was it would have been more difficult but it was just annoying.
I feel like the film takes awhile to get going and nothing really happens in the first hour but I think that’s kind of because it’s giving you time to understand the plot of the film and get to know the characters a little bit more.
I really liked all the characters and I thought there were hardly any annoying characters and I felt for all the characters, you know, I cared about them and was hoping they didn’t die and that everything turned out okay for them, the only thing was… I found the lead character really annoying… and I don’t know if that was kind of supposed to happen or not, but at least I still cared for her.
I feel like this was one of the first of those now common sci-fi things, like The Hunger Games and Divergent and to me it feels kind of outdated, it kind of feels like the things that came after this were more thought out and exciting.
It’s strange to think that Stephenie Meyer wrote a book like this and then also wrote The Twilight Saga something that is of lesser value. Although I have to admit I did like the books, I love a bit of vampire romance.
Although in this film there’s kind of a love triangle going on and usually I hate love triangles, because I feel like you can’t truly love the first person if you fall in love with the second so what’s the point in dragging it out for ages and ages… but this was a love triangle and it also wasn’t, because there wasn’t really one person in love with two people it just seemed that way. And although it was slightly creepy, at the same time I think it worked.
I loved the magic medicine, it was so convenient and cool. If only we had that in the real world – getting hurt would never be an issue. I also loved the really shiny silver lotus’, they were pretty ace.
There were some scenes in this film that really affected me emotionally, both the first and second time I saw it, and I don’t really know why but it just really hit me hard.
I feel like the ending was kind of incomplete, it seemed to finish as if there was going to be a second one and there wasn’t, I don’t know if there was supposed to be a second one but given that it’s been two years and there hasn’t been a second one the ending annoyed me, I also feel like there were loads more questions I needed answered and people that I wanted to get to know better and it never happened.
I don’t know what happened because when I saw it in the cinema I really enjoyed it, I thought it was absolutely incredibly amazing and one of the best films I’d ever seen, I don’t know if it was the cinema effect but I don’t feel like that anymore. So I guess this review proves to you that just because I say something doesn’t mean you should decide something. Because my opinion has obviously changed over the past two years, as everybody’s does all the time, so if you want to watch it go ahead, if you don’t want to watch it then don’t watch it, I don’t mind!
I would rate this film 3 and a half stars/5
