Description: James Brennan had his entire future planned out – university in New York – then suddenly his parents can’t help him afford it – he has to get a summer job. After everything else fails he gets a job in Adventureland – his local amusement park. Where friends, enemies and love can all be found.

My Thoughts: I remember seeing trailers for this film or seeing it on Netflix or Amazon Instant Video a number of times and thinking I should watch it at some point, that point finally came.

I’ve seen Jesse Eisenberg in quite a few things before; The Social Network and Now You See Me and I liked him in both, he obviously stuck with me more as a character in The Social Network because still in my head his name is Mark Zuckerberg and it angers me that I can never remember his real name! Anyway, he always plays really interesting and fascinating characters. In Adventureland his character wasn’t very fascinating his character was kind of dull, but that was through no fault of his own, but I still liked the way he did it. I love how he speaks, he speaks with such intelligence.

Everything that was going to happen was completely obvious and that’s saying something because usually when it comes to guessing what’s going to happen next I’m kind of oblivious.

The soundtrack was really, really terrible. It was so awful. Possibly one of the worst soundtracks I’ve ever heard for a film, and I feel like the soundtrack in films is really important it tells you how you should be feeling, and it just changes the atmosphere of the film. I feel like a film can’t reach it’s full potential unless it’s got a good soundtrack and this one didn’t.

There were some moments of really awful acting.

All of this being said, the film did make me laugh at times, they really did pull it off even though it had no obvious story-line and after thinking I didn’t care about the characters, by the end of it I realised I actually did care, I wanted everything to turn out well for them. Although they never ended up more likeable.

There was a good number of characters, almost the perfect amount and that kept it more interesting. Because then you couldn’t get bored of the same three characters which is what usually happens because you had more characters and that kept it more enjoyable.

I feel like this was kind of like The Breakfast Club just based in an amusement park rather than in detention and I’m a big fan of The Breakfast Club overall this film pulled through and I enjoyed it.

3 and a half stars/5
